The kids enjoyed getting a map from a tour guide filled with things for them to look for while on the grounds. It was so nice for them to be so entertained by it. If they solved all the riddles and questions they could get a souvenir at one of the gift shops and they did.
Rustication was something that fascinated me about the house.
We weren't allowed to take any pictures while touring the main house. My memory has already started to get mushy about the details inside the house however the loud shades of paint they used might not be so easily forgotten. My favorite room was the green room.
Jason and I helped the kids with the treasure maps a few times.
Tomb of President Washington.
We also visited the museum.
The kids put their money together to buy a telescope at Mt.Vernon. I was a little worried they would fight over ownership of it when we got home but so far they are still equally sharing it.
By the time we left Mt. Vernon in was late.
We stopped for a quick Domino's pizza and ate at a local park overseeing the lake by Mt.Vernon and with sunlight still on our side we made it to Arlington cemetery before it closed.
WWII monument. Jason enjoyed watching the Veterans all around us on this day. You could see a lot of emotions when you looked them in the eyes.
One of the things Dena and Ry said we had to go and watch was the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We made it to the last change of the guard.
The kids were amazed at the respect and dedication the guards showed towards the grave.
Madison learning a little more about the Sentinel's creed.
