Road trip day 10

Monday was a walking day, we walked and walked some more!
To get into the DC area we used the subway system. Dena and Ry said it was the easiest way to they moved and got around while on their trip a few months ago. We took their advice. We jumped on the subway at the Arlington station that was only about 3 blocks away from our hotel. The subway system is amazing however if you don't understand it then it can be very confusing. Thank goodness for helpful attendants that help tourists around. The ride wasn't very long and we got off at The Federal Triangle stop a short distance away from the White House.

We hung out for a bit to checked out a dress rehearsal for a State dinner in honor of the German Chancelor Angela Merkel that was taking place the following day.

It was a hot hot day! 90's plus humidity made layers on a big mistake.
The Washington Memorial from a distance.

On our way to the see the back of The White House we walked past the Treasury Department.

It was so hot we stopped by a shaded area for a snack and drinks.

We noticed the President has a very close neighbor.

At first we believed Obama was in our picture. My mom the Obama fan thought this was great. We've debunked our Obama theory after using Photoshop to zoom in and clear the image but my mom doesn't need to know that.

Waiting for the sprinkler to hit us. It was so dang hot.
We saw a lot of dead grass all around us.

Shade

more shade

a little more shade just because.

Honest Abe.

The view....Reflection pond... not what we had expected to see.

The rest of the Memorials.

A white squirrel is what we saw that was a little different than norm. We got back on the subway, walked back to the hotel and learned we could have saved a lot by buying a round trip fare instead of an all day pass for the subway. Oh well. Live and learn.

After resting and sitting in the hotel for a bit we drove back into DC and had Ben's Chili bowl for dinner. After dinner we drove around for a bit and finished off the night with some swimming back at the pool. The Memorials were awesome and visited by many different cultures of what I could see. It was fun to see much diversity all there for the same reason. To honor those that have served for our freedom.

I guess your mom doesn't read your blog. :) Those pictures brought back lots of memories from my DC trip. I'm really looking forward to taking our kids someday.
