Road trip day 7

Day 7 sightseeing destination was Niagara Falls! We arrived at the Niagara visitor center fairly early and walked around for a bit and bought souvenirs.  It wasn’t super nice and all it had to offer was a lot of food stands (which the smell of some made my stomach turn upside down), souvenir shops and a pushy tour kiosk that was falsely advertising itself as the info desk.

The best part was that aunt Mel didn’t have to pay for a copy of the daredevil kids picture.
Aunt Mel wanted a picture of the kids from a picture souvenir shop but it was deserted so we asked one of the workers what time it usually opened at and he informed us it has been closed for the last few days. He told us to go ahead and take our own picture, I guess other got tired of waiting and did this. 2 seconds after the kids got ready and I had our camera out the owner walks up, he was a nice guy and turned on the light and told us it would be fine for us to take the picture using our own camera.
After finishing up the visitor center we decided we should all have a bite to eat before taking our boat ride for our up close and personal falls encounter.
We went to The Hard Rock Café for lunch.

After lunch we went to check out the American side of the falls. We took some pictures and then went down to get on the Maid of the Mist boat tour with uncle Greg and g-ma Cheryl. We put on our nice high quality rain covers and waited patiently in line.

The kids had requested to be on the top level of the boat. We thought this to be the best spot on the boat so we tried to get to the front of the top level as fast as we thought wouldn’t be considered running and looking like dorky tourists. We weren't quick enough so we ended up on the right hand side. It was fine, we knew the boat would have to make a U turn once it got to the falls and our side of the boat would get a great view for a little bit. I was prepared to push kids aside if they decided to rush to our side once they saw the boat turn and want to see more of the falls and take our decent spot. There was no need for me to push little ones aside.
The falls were amazing! So much water just rushing down. An awesome sight to see!

After the boat tour we went on some cement steps they built up along the American side of the falls.

After catching up to g-pa Dale and aunt Mel we went our separate way from and started to walk towards Canada. The kids love reminding us we walked to Canada!

A few picture while on the bridge.

Aunt Mel was right the Canadian side of the falls is so much nice and cleaner.

After getting to Canada we told the kids we wanted to walk along the water all the way to the falls. It was a long walk but we knew the kids could do it but it wasn’t going to be easy. We used ice cream and fun games to keep them entertained and their minds off the actual walking. It worked for the most part and we only had to stop once or twice to rest.

It was fun to see how close we got to the falls on the boat from a different perspective.

We bought some more souvenirs at the visitor center/shop. Korbin got a Roots hat. Why he picked a white hat is still a mystery to me. He shared it with Madison which was very nice.

Once we got back and ready to cross the bridge we had to go thru a building and pay a 50 cent toll per person at a self service station to be able to cross the bridge to get back home. We found this hilarious!  We had to pay to come back home after a few short hours.

As we crossed the bridge we left Jason and Korbin in Canada so we could have a picture of our family on the international border line. Korb and Jas in Canada and Mads and I in the US.

We arrived back at aunt Mel’s around 7. We ate dinner, showered, did some laundry, said our goodbyes and went to bed.

We had to leave early towards Washington DC on day 8 and needed a good nights rest.

What a fun trip. Your kids are so lucky to go and see all of these amazing sights. It is fun to reminisce about when we went to see all these things. That is funny that you had to pay to get back into the states. I have a funny story about that when we went to the falls too. I will have to tell you when you come!
