Road trip day 4

While eating our not so great free breakfast on day 4 we shuffle our plans due to our emergency stop. The morning turned out better than what I had anticipated. We stuck around so we could have cell reception for a call I was expecting. After the call we made it to the Kirtland temple 15 minutes before it even opened.

We took our time and walked around the beautiful grounds and took in the quiet neighborhood before going into the visitor center. During the 15 minutes we goofed off and took cheesy pictures. Madison had a little break down but it didn’t last long. She was beyond tired at this point.

The temple was a little different than what we were expecting in all respects.  The temple is own by The Community of Christ. I’m still a little confused on how they ended up with this temple however it is very well kept.

Arriving early and being first is always a plus. We were the first visitors for the day.  We paid our $2 contribution each and hung out in the visitor center before the tour began. Korbin was thoughtful and bought us each a temple button while we waited. He’s very considerate and sometimes really takes me by surprise.

The four of us and our guide began our tour with a movie on the history of the building of the temple. The movie was only about 10-15 minutes long, by the end it helped us understand how and when some members of the church branched off.

After entering the temple I asked if we could take pictures and she respectfully ask us not to so we didn’t.
Our tour took about an hour long. We went thru all three levels of the temple. It is a beautiful temple even though it is no longer used for its original purpose.
The back room on the third floor was Joseph Smith’s office. At times during the tour you could feel the spirit here and there but not until the third floor in Joseph Smith’s office did it sink in deep. In the office our guide tried to explain the purpose of the office and the dealings than went on in it at the time. It’s all a blur except for the spirit Jason and I felt.
This temple holds something very special in it even after all this time. This visit is one of my testimony builders.

After our visit to the temple we headed to upstate New York crossing a bit of Pennsylvania and getting teased by Jason for my postcard hunt.

We made it into New York.

Amish living is one of those things that's just intriguing to me. Amish country was all around us at aunt Mel's house! It was cool to see a buggy crossing two seconds after actually seeing one in real life. Upstate New York is woody and beautiful.

Once we reached Aunt Mel's house the kids were so happy to get out of the car and just relax.
It was very nice to see Aunt Mel. It’s been about a year since we’ve seen her. We talked and caught up. She showed us her 100 year old house. It’s fun to hear her talk about her home. Aunt Mel loves antiques and stuff like that. Aunt Mel loves antiques and Uncle Lew loves to HUNT!
A few hours after our arrival uncle Lew arrived home. These two are so much fun. Uncle Lew makes you laugh and aunt Mel is a wonderful cook! We had pizza for dinner and hung out until bed time. Uncle Lew showed us his room. You won’t find anything girly in there.

During our next visit whenever that might be I want to learn how to use a bow for target practice. I don't ever want to hunt anything but hitting some cans or tree trunks would be fun. They own 50 acres in a nearby area they visit weekly which is where uncle Lew does his hunting. He has by far the best hunting story I've ever heard. It involved falling out of a tree, a 10 point deer, having an easy shot, over doing it and missing, deer looking back and scampering away.
The expression on his face was priceless while telling us his story. One probably only a hunter would understand.

I love the Kirtland Temple. It's definitely one of my favorites, especially since it's pretty much in it's same historical state as when it was built. I'm glad you got a great feeling there, I similarly had an amazing spiritual experience. Very cool.
