Back to School
Back in school! It's crazy to think we're parents of a 6th grader and a 4th grader.
Korbin is loving his class and both of his teachers this year. He's in a classroom with teachers that team teach. Changing teachers every two/three days doesn't seem to phase him which is a good sign he'll be prepared for jr. high next year. On the first day his teacher mentioned they'll be doing a lot of PE so they might want to start wearing deodorant. This comment made me laugh.
He has made some new friends in class which is great since he was a little worried over the summer because his good buds weren't going to be in the same class as him this year. Now, he has new and old friends to hang out with. 6th grade brings a lot of work we've learned. One essay due every week, homework and other stuff thru out the year. 6th grade also has brought a little attitude into our home. Lucky for Korbin he has parents that have no patience and have no problem telling him to knock it off. Love that kid! He's responsible and mellow most of time.
Madison wanted the same teacher Korbin had when he was in 4th grade. She was happy when she found out her wish had come true. Her wish got even better when she found out how many friends she knew in her class. She loves being a reading buddy in a Kindergarten class this year too. She likes her teacher and sitting by her friends. She dislikes the hallway her classroom is in because everything echo's. Phew, last year she was so intimidated by this hallway that I'm glad the echo is the only thing that's bugging her. Love this girl! She's funny and makes us laugh. Her body is definitely getting stronger from tumbling. She can do more push ups then 2 of the member of our family, I'm not mentioning any names. It's kinda sad but true.
Lava Hot Springs
The week before school started, the kids and I went to Lava Hot Springs for the day with friends. Going to Lava was Korbin's favorite activity this summer. We had good weather, good company, and a pool that wasn't over crowded. A perfect day with friends!
Highlights of the day;
Madison knows her momma. As I was screaming going down on the only speed slide I would go on (aka the yellow slide), she announced 'that's my mom' to the others. I wouldn't go down the purple speed slide. It has a 60 degree angle vertical drop. It would take a large bribe to get me to go on that thing.
The girls did a bit of synchronized diving/swimming, the boys spent some time on the rock climbing wall, indoor pool and played a few water games with Nate.
All the kids got along perfectly and hung out together and switched from one activity to another. They would also switch buddies to do different things thru out the day.
Some of the Nelson gang jumped off the platforms. Malinda, Nate and Ben. It was fun to watch them!
Lava Hot Springs sure was fun! We'll have to go again next summer and maybe stay a few days. Between the pool and the river to tube in we can easily camp two days and two nights at a nice campground nearby.

2-day camping trip
We took advantage during Jason's last vacation week, to go on a two day camping trip. We usually only get to squeeze in one night of camping so going for two nights was a real treat. We packed up and headed out Thursday morning to the same area as the last time we went camping.
After setting up camp we enjoyed exploring, getting wet in the river and playing a few cards games and board games too. Korbin taught us a cool card game he learned at school, it was easy and fun to play. We finished the night with foil hobo dinners and (extra good) s'mores.
The next day was uneventful. We drove to Snow Basin for a gondola ride but it was closed. We ended up taking a scenic drive up to Causey Dam and watched a few cliff jumpers.
After going back to camp it was time for Madison and I to go home for a bit. I volunteered to take Mads to tumbling mostly so I could shower. Jason and Korbin went tubbing down the river while Mads and I were away. The rain followed us up the canyon on our way back. We had to cook our hot dogs in the rain and since it wasn't clearing up we decided to call it a night. The next morning after everything was reasonable dry we packed up quickly and headed home.
It's fun to take a break and get away from everything and do a whole lot of nothing. If we get lucky maybe we'll able to take squeeze in one more camping this summer.
